Artwork auctioned at 15 times the upper estimate price
When the work Three enamel plaques; A comb set with enamel plaques; and A small box with a design for 'Ruslan and Liudmila' by Sergei Chekhonin was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2019, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 5,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than 15 times as high at GBP 75,000.00 (€ 84,311.12). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Sergei Chekhonin - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Still Life With Roses, Anemones And Chrysanthemums In A Chinese Vase, which sold at auction in June 2021 for GBP 275,000.00 (€ 320,446.49).
