Upper estimate price exceeded by 71 %.
In October this year Bonhams in London held the auction The Marine Sale, which included the work The New Brighton packet towing a distressed merchantman by Samuel Walters. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 5,120.00 (€ 5,879.18), 71% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Samuel Walters achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Confederate blockade runner C.S.S COLONEL LAMB at sea in February 2004 with an auction result of USD 77,675.00 (€ 62,434.69).
