Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work H.M.S. Director Raking The Dutch Flagship Vrijheid, During The Battle of Camperdown, 11Th October 1797 by Samuel Owen was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2005, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,440.00 (€ 2,115.54). Admittedly, works by Samuel Owen have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A frigate, an excursion steamer and barges on the Thames before Greenwich Hospital in October 2007 with an auction result of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 10,770.49).
