Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Admiralty cutters beating inshore with a frigate running out of harbour by Samuel Owen was sold in the Maritime auction at Christies in London in May 2001. It changed hands for a price of GBP 493.50 (€ 827.36) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Samuel Owen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A frigate, an excursion steamer and barges on the Thames before Greenwich Hospital in October 2007 with an auction result of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 10,770.49).
