Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Caernarvon Castle, North Wales by Samuel Hieronymus Grimm was auctioned at Sothebys in London in September 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,115.72). Admittedly, works by Samuel Hieronymus Grimm have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Four Views Of Switzerland: Including View Of: The Grimsel Pass With The Handeck Waterfall; The Haslital; The Schollenen Gorge And Devil'S Bridge, And A Bridge With Waterfalls In The Haslital in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 15,000.00 (€ 18,035.81).
Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Samuel Hieronymus Grimm auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Four Views Of Switzerland: Including View Of: The Grimsel Pass With The Handeck Waterfall; The Haslital; The Schollenen Gorge And Devil'S Bridge, And A Bridge With Waterfalls In The Haslital im Juli 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 15.000,00 (€ 18.035,81).
