This artwork by Salvator Rosa achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2018. In the Old Masters/New Scholars: Works of Art Sold to Benefit Rugby School auction, the work Figures on a rocky coastal inlet sold for GBP 11,250.00 (€ 12,533.50) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Salvator Rosa achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of the artist, half-length, in a brown doublet in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 769,250.00 (€ 924,936.45).
