Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Salvator Rosa achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2017. In the Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours auction, the work A rocky landscape with a tree and two figures sold for GBP 68,750.00 (€ 76,714.44) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 30,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Salvator Rosa achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of the artist, half-length, in a brown doublet in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 769,250.00 (€ 924,936.45).
