Each signed in pencil in the margin; each titled, dated, numbered 4/40, copyright notation and annotations in an unidentified hand in pencil on the verso. Number 4 from an edition of 40 plus 9 lettered sets. Each print contained within a stitch-bound folder, with letterpress title, artist's statement and colophon, enclosed within a black silk-covered slipcase with silver-stamped photographer's initials on the cover.

Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Gift of the Commonplace by Ruth Bernhard was auctioned at Phillips in New York in April this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,413.00 (€ 2,185.69). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ruth Bernhard achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'Ruth Bernhard' in October 2007 with an auction result of USD 37,000.00 (€ 25,573.68).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Gift of the Commonplace von Ruth Bernhard im April diesen Jahres bei Phillips in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.500,00 – 3.500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 2.413,00 (€ 2.185,69) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ruth Bernhard erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit 'Ruth Bernhard' im Oktober 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 37.000,00 (€ 25.573,68).
