This artwork by Russell Drysdale achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Melbourne in November 2009. In the Important Australian Art auction, the work Australian Evening sold for AUD 690,000.00 (€ 420,746.30) - well above the upper estimate of AUD 350,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Russell Drysdale - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Australian rocky Mccormack, which sold at auction in August 2008 for AUD 1,890,000.00 (€ 1,103,283.80).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Russell Drysdale erzielte im November 2009 bei Sothebys in Melbourne einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Important Australian Art wurde die Arbeit Australian Evening für AUD 690.000,00 (€ 420.746,30) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von AUD 350.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Russell Drysdale mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Australian rocky Mccormack beobachtet, die im August 2008 für AUD 1.890.000,00 (€ 1.103.283,80) versteigert wurde.
