Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2019 Christies in London held the auction British Art: Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, which included the work An outward-bound, 18-gun merchantman at the ‘Tail of the Bank’, portrayed in three positions by Robert Salmon. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 35,000.00 (€ 41,365.90) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Robert Salmon have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Royal Naval Vessels Off Pembroke Dock, Milford Haven in June 2009 with an auction result of USD 242,500.00 (€ 172,967.19).
