Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2004 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Pictures, which included the work The close action between H.M.S. Eurotas and the French frigate Clorinde, 25th-26th February 1814 - A set of three comprising: The opening salvo from Eurotas into Clorinde's stern; The two frigates subsequently dismasted; and The remasted Eurotas in by Robert Dodd. The price achieved of GBP 23,900.00 (€ 35,858.80) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Robert Dodd - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Greenland Whale Fishery, which sold at auction in November 2006 for GBP 88,800.00 (€ 131,870.78).
The close action between H.M.S. Eurotas and the French frigate Clorinde, 25th-26th February 1814 - A set of three comprising: The opening salvo from Eurotas into Clorinde's stern; The two frigates subsequently dismasted; and The remasted Eurotas in von Robert Dodd zur Versteigerung kam.
