Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Mary, Queen of Scots, taking her leave of Sir Arthur Melville, on her way to execution by Richard Westall was auctioned at Christies in London in March 2004. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,107.00 (€ 4,650.89) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Richard Westall achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Faust and Lilith in December 2012 with an auction result of GBP 55,250.00 (€ 68,138.59).

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 3.107,00 (€ 4.650,89) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
