Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Fishing boats on the south coast by Richard Principal Leitch was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2010, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 687.50 (€ 821.56). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Richard Principal Leitch - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A quantity of unframed watercolours and wash drawings, the majority English and Continental landscapes and maritime subjects, some signed and dated '1879'; and eleven unframed brown wash landscape studies by John Callow, which sold at auction in December 2004 for GBP 2,270.50 (€ 3,213.38).
