This artwork by Richard Cosway achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January last year. In the Old Master & British Drawings auction, the work Portrait of a veiled lady, probably Maria Cosway, three-quarter length, standing by a column sold for USD 5,250.00 (€ 4,682.48) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Richard Cosway achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Maria Fitzherbert in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 81,250.00 (€ 89,207.10).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Richard Cosway erzielte im Januar letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Master & British Drawings wurde die Arbeit Portrait of a veiled lady, probably Maria Cosway, three-quarter length, standing by a column für USD 5.250,00 (€ 4.682,48) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 1.800,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Richard Cosway erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Maria Fitzherbert im Juli 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 81.250,00 (€ 89.207,10).
