This artwork by Richard Cosway achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in April this year. In the Old Master Paintings auction, the work A portrait miniature of an officer, wearing red coat with black collar and epaulettes over his white waistcoat, chemise and cravat, his hair powdered and tied with black ribbon sold for GBP 1,402.50 (€ 1,598.39) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Richard Cosway achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Maria Fitzherbert in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 81,250.00 (€ 89,207.10).

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Richard Cosway erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Maria Fitzherbert im Juli 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 81.250,00 (€ 89.207,10).
