This price was achieved in the auction Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art at Sothebys in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 20,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Rabindranath Tagore - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Untitled (Couple), which sold at auction in September 2021 for USD 637,500.00 (€ 550,660.79).
