Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Roses, hydrangeas, parrot tulips and other flowers in a porcelain vase, with a parrot and a squirrel on a ledge, surrounded with garlands of apples, pears, grapes and pomegranates by Pseudo-Simons was sold in the Old Master and British Paintings auction at Christies in London in October 2014. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 22,500.00 (€ 28,729.25) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Pseudo-Simons - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Grapes on the vine, plums, apples, pears and other fruit and flowers all in a wicker basket, a red squirrel eating acorns, a partially peeled lemon on a silver dish with cherries, oranges and figs on a stone table ledge; and Grapes on the vine, plums, which sold at auction in June 2002 for
