This artwork by Pietro de Rossi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2007. In the Important Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes auction, the work Count Sergei Grigor'vich Stroganov (1794-1882), in silver-piped black uniform with red collar, silver epaulettes, wearing the badges of the Imperial Russian Order of St. Vladimir and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem; nocturnal sky background sold for GBP 31,700.00 (€ 44,388.20) - well above the upper estimate Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Pietro de Rossi; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait Of Count Alexei Fyodorovich Orlov, Later Prince Orlov (1786-1861) sold at auction in November 2018 with the realized price of GBP 62,500.00 (€ 70,498.10).
