Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Apollo and Daphne by Pietro Antonio Novelli was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 4,032.00 (€ 3,322.62). Admittedly, works by Pietro Antonio Novelli have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Neptune, Standing, Facing Left, A Dolphin At His Feet in July 2007 with an auction result of GBP 11,400.00 (€ 16,931.63).
