It achieved a price of GBP 501.90 (€ 710.33), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 25%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Phil May - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Queen Victoria and her family surrounded by political, artistic and sporting figures of the period, which sold at auction in December 2001 for GBP 1,057.50 (€ 1,727.81).
