Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A wooded river landscape with figures and cattle in the foreground, ruins on a hill beyond by Peter La Cave was auctioned at Christies in London in April 2007, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,920.00 (€ 2,811.13). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Peter La Cave - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Figures outside an inn, with a sow and piglets, houses beyond; and Figures sharpening a scythe, with two donkeys, farm buildings beyond, which sold at auction in October 2011 for GBP 5,625.00 (€ 6,509.87).
