Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2019 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Lady Cholmondeley, Circa 1700 by Peter Cross for GBP 2,375.00 (€ 2,806.97). This price was achieved in the auction The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures, Part III at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Peter Cross achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A young gentleman erroneously called Duke of Monmouth, facing left in grey coat, lace jabot and blue cloak over his right shoulder, full bottomed wig in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 19,975.00 (€ 32,648.35).
