Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work An Extensive Landscape With Herdsmen Resting On A Rocky Outcrop, A Woman Spinning Wool In The Foreground by Paul Bril was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 60,000.00 – 80,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 50,000.00 (€ 58,458.11). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Paul Bril achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Extensive Landscape With Tobit, Tobias And The Archangel Raphael in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 713,250.00 (€ 857,602.76).
