In March 2004 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian including Scottish Paintings, which included the work The Vennel From Buchluch St, Greenock by Patrick Downie. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,195.00 (€ 1,788.81), 49% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Patrick Downie have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A rainy evening, Paisley in October 2005 with an auction result of GBP 9,000.00 (€ 13,272.28).

Im März 2004 führte Christies in London die Auktion British and Victorian including Scottish Paintings durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Vennel From Buchluch St, Greenock von Patrick Downie zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 1.195,00 (€ 1.788,81) und damit 49% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Patrick Downie auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A rainy evening, Paisley im Oktober 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 9.000,00 (€ 13.272,28).
