Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work "You'll go pony trekking on your own next year" by Norman Thelwell was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2014, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 700.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,994.35). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Norman Thelwell; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot 'How many trading stamps did they give you with him?' sold at auction in December 2010 with the realized price of GBP 3,750.00 (€ 4,349.99).
