Description
NICOLAES MAES (DORDRECHT 1634-1693 AMSTERDAM) Portrait of a Lady, half-length, traditionally identified as the artist's mother signed and inscribed 'Æ T . 69. / .N. MAES. 1664.' (center left) oil on panel 29 1 ⁄ 8 x 23 1 ⁄ 8 in. (74.1 x 58.8 cm.)
Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Portrait of a Lady, half-length, traditionally identified as the artist's mother by Nicolaes Maes was sold in the Old Master Paintings and Sculpture Online auction at Christies in New York in January this year. Here, the upper estimate of USD 15,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 16,380.00 (€ 15,085.65). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Nicolaes Maes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Group portrait of a family in an Italianate garden with an ornate fountain in December 2005 with an auction result of GBP 792,000.00 (€ 1,149,543.66).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Portrait of a Lady, half-length, traditionally identified as the artist's mother von Nicolaes Maes wurde im Januar diesen Jahres in der Auktion Old Master Paintings and Sculpture Online bei Christies in New York versteigert.
