Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2001 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH & CONTINENTAL WATERCOLOURS,DRAWINGS & ILLUSTRATIONS, which included the work Esmond Knight As Bernardo In Hamlet by Mervyn Lawrence Peake. The price achieved of GBP 493.50 (€ 819.80) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 400.00 – 600.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Mervyn Lawrence Peake - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The sculpture gallery, which sold at auction in July 2007 for GBP 1,200.00 (€ 1,782.28).
