In December 2001 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL DRAWINGS AND WATERCOLOURS AND ILLUST, which included the work A collection of beastly creatures by Mervyn Lawrence Peake. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 763.75 (€ 1,247.86), 53% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Mervyn Lawrence Peake; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The sculpture gallery sold at auction in July 2007 with the realized price of GBP 1,200.00 (€ 1,782.28).
