The work A Peacock And Peahen, Together With A Cockerel And Other Poultry, A Swallow, Pigeon And Hoopoe Beside A Fountain In A Garden, All Disturbed By The Arrival Of A Falcon by Melchior d'Hondecoeter was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale auction at Sothebys in London in December 2013. The price achieved of GBP 470,500.00 (€ 565,938.53) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 400,000.00 – 600,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Melchior d'Hondecoeter - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A peacock, a peahen, a monkey and other birds on a terrace, which sold at auction in January 2011 for USD 1,650,500.00 (€ 1,203,426.90).
