Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Ruins near Termessus in Antalya, with mountains behind; and A view of Antalya, with the Mediterranean sea and mountains behind by Max Schmidt was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2016, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 2,500.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 7,500.00 (€ 8,685.93). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Max Schmidt; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Ansicht von Kairo, im Vordergrund ruhende Araber sold at auction in October 2008 with the realized price of EUR 15,860.00.
