Among other contemporary Japanese artists, Masaru Shichinohe has a unique creative style. His works are easily differentiated from the ‘Superflat’ and mainstream ‘Kawaii’ aesthetics, providing another interpretation to contemporary Japanese art. Emphasising the use of space, Shichinohe’s art weaves both surrealism and literary narrative, employing elements such as fire hydrants and watches to create an eccentric, magical atmosphere. The application of imagination and space is associated with the artist’s experience as a professional architect. Shichinohe graduated from the Musashino Art University majoring in Architecture, and worked for an architectural firm for thre

A top price for Shichinohe Masaru - as previously expected
In May 2017 China Guardian in Hong Kong held the auction Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art, which included the work The Praying Girl(Painted In 2012) by Shichinohe Masaru. The price achieved of HKD 826,000.00 (€ 94,318.08) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as HKD 700,000.00 – 1,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The Praying Girl(Painted In 2012) is the most expensive artwork by Shichinohe Masaru that we have observed at auctions so far.
Ein Spitzenpreis mit Ansage
Im Mai 2017 führte China Guardian in Hong Kong die Auktion Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Praying Girl(Painted In 2012) von Shichinohe Masaru zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von HKD 826.000,00 (€ 94.318,08) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit HKD 700.000,00 – 1.000.000,00 angegeben worden. Auch wenn das Ergebnis damit nicht positiv überraschen konnte, ist The Praying Girl(Painted In 2012) das teuerste Kunstwerk von Shichinohe Masaru, das wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachtet haben.
