Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Four Seasons by Maruyama Okyo was sold in the Fine Japanese Art auction at Sothebys in London in November 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 300,000.00 – 500,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 325,000.00 (€ 381,629.46) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Maruyama Okyo - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Cranes, which sold at auction in September 2007 for USD 1,105,000.00 (€ 777,129.19).
