Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
The work Light airs and a flowing tide. Candida and Shamrock V running off Portsmouth, 1934 by Martyn Richardson Mackrill was worth GBP 8,925.00 (€ 10,642.75) to a buyer in April last year. This price was achieved in the auction The Marine Sale at Bonhams in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Martyn Richardson Mackrill - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Valkyrie (III) leading His Majesty's yacht Britannia off Hunter's Quay, during the Clyde Regatta, 1895, which sold at auction in May 2004 for GBP 26,290.00 (€ 39,444.68).
