Auction result well in line with expectations
The work 'America's Cup Race October 1899' - Sir Thomas Lipton's Shamrock 1 racing against Columbia off Sandy Hook, U.S.A. by Martyn Richardson Mackrill was sold in the The Marine Sale auction at Bonhams in April this year. The price achieved of GBP 7,012.50 (€ 7,991.96) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Admittedly, works by Martyn Richardson Mackrill have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Valkyrie (III) leading His Majesty's yacht Britannia off Hunter's Quay, during the Clyde Regatta, 1895 in May 2004 with an auction result of GBP 26,290.00 (€ 39,444.68).
