When the work Ships At Anchor In An Estuary, One Firing A Salute, An American Sloop Nearby by Martinus Schouman was auctioned at Christies in Amsterdam in December 2014, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at - in retrospect quite modest - EUR 1,800.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at EUR 7,250.00. Admittedly, works by Martinus Schouman have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The English flagship Venerable engaging the Dutch flagship Vrijheid at the Battle of Camperdown, 11th October 1797; the Dutch ships Staten-Generaal and Admiral de Vries to the left and right respectively in February 2004 with an auction result of USD 45,410.00 (€ 36,500.28).

Als die Arbeit Ships At Anchor In An Estuary, One Firing A Salute, An American Sloop Nearby von Martinus Schouman im Dezember 2014 bei Christies in Amsterdam versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – EUR 1.800,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit EUR 7.250,00 mehr als viermal so hoch.
