In December 2020 Christies in worldwide held the auction 20th Century: Hong Kong to New York, which included the work Voices by Martin Wong. The »bidding war« ended at HKD 3,000,000.00 (€ 316,435.00), 50% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Martin Wong - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Quong Yuen Shing & Co., which sold at auction in May last year for USD 1,260,375.00 (€ 1,174,517.75).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 50 % übertroffen
Im Dezember 2020 führte Christies in worldwide die Auktion 20th Century: Hong Kong to New York durch, in der auch die Arbeit Voices von Martin Wong zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von HKD 3.000.000,00 (€ 316.435,00) und damit 50% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Martin Wong mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Quong Yuen Shing & Co. beobachtet, die im Mai letzten Jahres für USD 1.260.375,00 (€ 1.174.517,75) versteigert wurde.
