This artwork by Martin Johann Schmidt achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January 2009. In the The Scholars Eye: Property from the Julius Held Collection Part II auction, the work The Martyrdom of Saint Catherine sold for USD 3,500.00 (€ 2,733.52) - well above the upper estimate of USD 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Martin Johann Schmidt achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Saint Florian Rescuing The Burning Stockern Castle; Saint John Nepomuk in January 2012 with an auction result of USD 92,500.00 (€ 70,864.94).
