Auction result well in line with expectations
The work On the Beach by Marsden Hartley was sold in the Modern American Masterworks from the Ted Shen Collection auction at Christies in New York in April this year. The price achieved of USD 1,865,000.00 (€ 1,689,311.59) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 1,500,000.00 – 2,500,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Marsden Hartley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pre-War Pageant in November 2018 with an auction result of USD 27,395,000.00 (€ 24,194,118.17).

Die Arbeit On the Beach von Marsden Hartley wurde im April diesen Jahres in der Auktion Modern American Masterworks from the Ted Shen Collection bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 1.865.000,00 (€ 1.689.311,59) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 1.500.000,00 – 2.500.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Marsden Hartley erzielen.
