Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Grapes in a Bowl (University of Kansas 5), 1923 by Marsden Hartley was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in August last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,250.00 – 1,750.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,020.00 (€ 1,013.41). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Marsden Hartley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pre-War Pageant in November 2018 with an auction result of USD 27,395,000.00 (€ 24,194,118.17).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Grapes in a Bowl (University of Kansas 5), 1923 von Marsden Hartley im August letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in Los Angeles versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.250,00 – 1.750,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 1.020,00 (€ 1.013,41) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Marsden Hartley erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Pre-War Pageant im November 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 27.395.000,00 (€ 24.194.118,17).
