Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Dogtown by Marsden Hartley was sold in the American Art auction at Sothebys in New York in November 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 218,750.00 (€ 198,520.74) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Marsden Hartley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pre-War Pageant in November 2018 with an auction result of USD 27,395,000.00 (€ 24,194,118.17).
