Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Mark Manders achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in April 2014. In the Post-War and Contemporary Art auction, the work Short Sad Thought (2 Times) (Fragment From Self-Portrait As A Building) sold for EUR 20,000.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 7,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Mark Manders; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Untitled Head sold at auction in September 2018 with the realized price of USD 41,800.00 (€ 35,966.27).
