This artwork by Margaret Mellis achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in January 2020. In the The Delighted Eye: Works from the Collection of Allen and Beryl Freer auction, the work Houses by Moonlight, St Ives sold for GBP 10,625.00 (€ 12,638.32) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Margaret Mellis - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Scarlet Undercurrent, which sold at auction in June 2017 for GBP 25,000.00 (€ 28,470.34).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Margaret Mellis erzielte im Januar 2020 bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion The Delighted Eye: Works from the Collection of Allen and Beryl Freer wurde die Arbeit Houses by Moonlight, St Ives für GBP 10.625,00 (€ 12.638,32) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 5.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Margaret Mellis mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Scarlet Undercurrent beobachtet, die im Juni 2017 für GBP 25.000,00 (€ 28.470,34) versteigert wurde.
