Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Portrait Of Frances Howard, Countess Of Hertford, Later Duchess Of Lennox And Richmond (1578–1639), Half-Length, Wearing An Embroidered Dress by Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger was sold in the Old Master Day Sale including Old Master Paintings, Drawings and British Works on Paper auction at Sothebys in London in July 2020. It achieved a price of GBP 35,000.00 (€ 39,039.83), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 17%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Frances Howard, Countess of Hertford, later Duchess of Lennox and Richmond, full-length, in a masquerade dress, with a wreath of pansies in her hair in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 1,721,250.00 (€ 1,975,391.88).
