This artwork by Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in June 2008. In the Important British Paintings auction, the work Portrait Of A Lady sold for GBP 49,250.00 (€ 62,253.65) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 20,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Frances Howard, Countess of Hertford, later Duchess of Lennox and Richmond, full-length, in a masquerade dress, with a wreath of pansies in her hair in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 1,721,250.00 (€ 1,975,391.88).
