Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Harakiri School Girls (Silver) by Makoto Aida was auctioned at Bonhams in London in August this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of HKD 3,500.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for HKD 640.00 (€ 75.28). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Makoto Aida achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work ZAKU- (War Picture Returns- Side B) in November 2009 with an auction result of HKD 2,900,000.00 (€ 249,499.80).
