Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Untitled (Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam) by Mahadev Viswanath Dhurandhar was auctioned at Christies in New York in March 2019, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 20,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at USD 68,750.00 (€ 61,230.85). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Mahadev Viswanath Dhurandhar; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Twenty Watercolours Depicting Scenes Of Bombay sold at auction in October 2017 with the realized price of GBP 87,500.00 (€ 99,767.13).
