Description
etching, circa 1650-70, on laid paper, watermark Fleur-de-Lys (similar to Heawood 1431, Naples 1691), a good, tonal but slightly later impression of the first state (of three), beginning to show some wear in the densely worked areas, with small margins, with the usual vertical central fold partially split and repaired, some minor stains, a small paper loss at the lower left sheet corner, otherwise in good condition

Sold at the lower estimate price
In December 2019 Christies in London held the auction Old Master Prints, which included the work Christ disputing with the Doctors in the Temple by Luca Giordano. The result of GBP 1,500.00 (€ 1,772.82) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Luca Giordano achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew in July 2014 with an auction result of GBP 962,500.00 (€ 1,214,015.12).
Zuschlag beim unteren Schätzpreis
Im Dezember 2019 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master Prints durch, in der auch die Arbeit Christ disputing with the Doctors in the Temple von Luca Giordano zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 1.500,00 (€ 1.772,82) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.500,00 – 2.500,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Luca Giordano erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew im Juli 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 962.500,00 (€ 1.214.015,12).
