The work The Martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew by Luca Giordano was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in July 2014. The price achieved of GBP 962,500.00 (€ 1,214,015.12) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800,000.00 – 1,200,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The Martyrdom of Saint Bartholomew is the most expensive artwork by Luca Giordano that we have observed at auctions so far.
