A young gentleman, in blue coat, white waistcoat and knotted cravat, forward-combed dark hair and side-whiskers; together with a young gentleman, in aubergine-coloured coat, dark green waistcoat, red scarf with multi-coloured checked border tied in a knot, long powdered hair (French School, circa 1795)

The price achieved of GBP 960.00 (€ 1,424.59) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Admittedly, works by Louis François Aubry have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Louis Bonaparte (1778-1846), King of Holland 1806-1810, in the green uniform of a general, with scarlet facings, silver epaulettes, wearing the breast-star and badge of the Imperial Order of the Legion of Honour and the badges of the Order of the Iro in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 10,000.
