Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A young lady, in black velvet dress with high standing lace collar, eye glass suspended from a chain draped around her corsage, her dark hair upswept and dressed in curls by Louis François Aubry was sold in the Important Gold Boxes,Objects of Vertu & Portrait Miniatures auction at Christies in London in December 2003. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,151.00 (€ 3,046.61) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Louis François Aubry have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Louis Bonaparte (1778-1846), King of Holland 1806-1810, in the green uniform of a general, with scarlet facings, silver epaulettes, wearing the breast-star and badge of the Imperial Order of the Legion of Honour and the badges of the Order of the Iro in N
